part 1…
it all
started back in 2005, my sophomore year of high school. i didn’t have a
boyfriend and at this point i hadn’t even had my first kiss. to be honest i was
pretty naive for a 15 year old. well that was all until i met tim.
my best
friend hailee was dating one of his best friends, lee. one night hailee and i went
with tim and lee to arctic circle and that is where i met branden (most people
knew him as “kyfe” more than as branden, but that’s a whole other story for
ya). the first time i met him, he had bruises on both sides of his face and his
cheeks were a little puffy looking. he told hailee and me that he had gotten
into a fight, but we should see what the other guy looked like. truth was, he
had just gotten his wisdom teeth taken out :)
fast
forward through a couple of weeks…. we decided that we should hook kyfe up with
our friend stephanie so that we could all hang out together, 3 best friends
with 3 best friends= perfecto!
one night we all were hanging out at ammon park…
(this is where things get good) basically this was like a hot spot for making
out, (keep in mind i’ve never been kissed) so i am freaking out, nervous,
inside. well tim and i were laying under a blanket right next to kyfe and
stephanie (who were already making out hahaha) and right then and there i had
my first kiss, with my future husbands best friend. i can’t make these things
up!

(i tend to jump back and forth between the name kyfe and branden. just remember they are the same person haha)

part 2…
to be honest, the whole tim thing didn’t last long. at all. during our short lived “fling” (if you could call it that haha) i became pretty good friends with kyfe. there is one night in particular that something or other had happened and i was really sad. well branden called me and talked to me for a while that night and i remember going into my sister ashley’s room (i doubt she’d remember this) and saying “kyfe is seriously so nice! i just love him!”, or something along those lines… i really considered him one of my good friends. we were always each other’s go to for advice when it came to our “relationship” drama.
after tim and i and stephanie and kyfe went our separate ways we kinda just stopped talking. then they graduated from high school and besides the occasional run in, i didn’t see or hear much from kyfe until the end of summer before my senior year. one night i was over at hailee’s house making brownies and she had invited our friend bear over. and just so fate would have it, kyfe was with him...

part 3…
kyfe
started texted me quite a bit after we saw each other that night (totally
flirting haha). well i wasn’t all that interested because he was a little too
“rowdy”, if you will.
by this
point i had started my senior year of high school and was in a spanish class
with a bunch of freshman and sophomores (procrastination. at least my friend jessica
was in there with me!!). well it just so happened that kyfes little brother
jake was in that same spanish class. fate! or something like that :). branden
would always tell jake to put in a good word with me and try to convince me
that we needed to hang out. so jake played his part well, amidst all the
cheating off of me and jessica that he did hahaha.
the end of
september rolled around and branden, hailee, and i would hang out occasionally.
we would all go to taco bell (our fave) or just drive around listening to
music. his favorite song was a remix of fergie and sean kingston. straight
obsessed is an understatement.
i would
have to agree with the saying “timing is everything” because shortly after
branden and i started hanging out he got in a little bit of trouble… the kind
of trouble that made him reevaluate some things and have to change his
lifestyle a bit. basically he needed a good friend to hang out with and keep
him out of trouble. turns out i was the perfect person for the job.

branden
and i started spending a lot of time together. conveniently he didn’t have his driver’s
license (because of the trouble he had gotten in), so i drove everywhere. at
the time he was still in plumbing school a few nights a week so i would pick
him up and take him home. i knew i was starting to get a little crush, we would
hang out almost every day, and go to one or two movies a week. i didn’t realize
how much i liked him until he told me he was probably going to be moving to
west yellowstone for work. the thought of not being able to hang out with him
or see him every day made me want to cry. basically, i knew this had the potential
of getting pretty serious.
(he didn’t
end up moving, obviously)
i was cheering
at a basketball game one night (december 6th to be exact) and
afterwards branden invited me over to his sisters house (he was house sitting
for a few days while she was out of town). if i remember right we were watching
ER and a jewelry store commercial came on with the song “a thousand miles” by
vanessa carlton playing. we were both looking at each other and then i, yes i,
leaned in and kissed him.
later that
night he walked me out to my car and kissed me goodbye. as i drove away i was
thinking “crap! am i going somewhere i don’t wanna be going?? are we going to
potentially ruin a great friendship??”. well i let my thoughts get the best of
me and started pumping the breaks, big time!! things were a little awkward for
a bit, but we still hung out all the time and i couldn’t help but want to be
near him. even though it freaked me out i just wanted to kiss him again! so
what did i do? i kissed him again! and again! and again!...........

part 5
even
though we were basically dating at this point, i still didn’t want to put “the
label” on our relationship (because once you put a label on it, it makes it
official) and honestly i was enjoying the way things were going. we were
friends who went out on a lot of dates and i liked it that way.
One night
(january 19th) we were watching a movie at his house. –---by the
way, he lived with a few of his friends in the most ghetto little house, behind
a bar and grill. so just picture this romantic scene haha—anyway, we were
watching a movie and just sitting there talking when the subject of being
official girlfriend-boyfriend came up again. well of course i’m still being
totally hesitant about it so branden decides “let’s just try it out, just be my
girlfriend and if it ends up being weird we can go back to normal”. believe it
or not, i took the bait! i agreed to give it a try and guess what? it wasn’t
weird at all. it was actually the opposite of weird. and being able to call him
my boyfriend made me like him even more.
fast
forward a few months… we were at my house watching ABDC (america’s best dance
crew) and branden looks at me and says “i think i’m falling in love with you”,
which freeeeaaakkss me OUT! clearly i wasn’t ready to say that back to him.
poor guy haha. not to worry though, a few weeks later when i was leaving his
house i said it--- “i love you” and what do you know… he said it back.

part 6
a lot of fun stuff happened over the next 3 years. i attended and graduated from cosmetology school, branden graduated from plumbing school, he bought a house, got his journeyman’s license, we took a few trips to arizona, and celebrated 3 years of being together in january 2011. then in march he asked me to marry him.
before we got engaged we talked about it--we knew we wanted to get married, we knew we wanted it to be in the summer/early fall, and we knew we wanted to be engaged longer than one or two months, so it was time to take the plunge! probably a week or so after we discussed it we decided to go look at engagement rings so he knew exactly what i wanted. we found my ring at a local jewelry store and i picked it out (i realize that is super boring, but what can i say? i’m picky!). i knew he was going to propose i just didn’t know when. at the time i was working 2 jobs so i would go to his house when i got off from my morning job, before i had to go to my second job.
one friday after leaving work and heading over to his house i noticed a note taped to his side door. it was the first clue of a scavenger hunt that took me all around his house. there was a walk way of rose peddles and in each room they were arranged to spell word like “will” “you” and “marry”. The final clue took me down to the basement where branden was dressed up and on one knee, ring in hand.
